General Tso Pheasant

My husband was craving Chinese food and we had pheasant at the ready so this recipe was born. Serve with fried rice, Lo Mein or both. It is a long list of ingredients but super easy!! We also enjoy it with roasted broccoli. I truly hope you enjoy this recipe!!


General Tso Pheasant

  • 1 lb of pheasant breast, cut into 1” cubes

  • 1/4 cup corn starch

  • 2 cups of flour

  • 2 tablespoons of garlic

  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin Sauce

  • 1/4 Cup stock

  • 1 tablespoons ginger, minced

  • 1/2 teaspoon of red chili flakes

  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoons of corn starch

  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced

  • canola oil

  • additional red peppers flakes for topping

  • Sesame seeds for topping

  • Slice green onions for topping

Toss the Pheasant in with the corn starch. Mix together the flour and garlic powder. Toss the pheasant in the flour mixture and set aside. In a small sauce pan whisk together the Rice Vinegar, Soy Sauce, Hoisin Sauce, Chicken Broth, Ginger, Red Chili Flakes , Brown Sugar, Corn Starch and Garlic. Once fully combine place on the stove on low. Cook rice or other sides that you maybe serving as the pheasant will go quick and should be the last thing fixed. Once ready to cook heat the oil to a medium high heat and cook the pheasant in batches turning once brown, it will not take long. Once all the pheasant is cooked toss in a bowl with just enough sauce to coat the pheasant. Top with Red Pepper Flakes, Sesame Seeds and Green Onions and serve.
