Walleye Fish Sandwich

I love fish and this is one of those few recipes that I love with American Cheese. Maybe it is because this is the first fish sandwich I remember having and it was with my Dad at McDonald’s. That crispy battered fish with melted American Cheese. This is a simple version has a light breading that will not to take away from that wonderful walleye.

Some variations:

  • Top with a slice of tomato and cream cheese instead of tartar sauce

  • Spice it up with a little green chili on top of the fish

Walleye Fish Sandwich

  • 4 walleye fillets

  • 1 cup of flour

  • 1 cup of corn meal

  • 2 teaspoons of onion powder

  • 1/4  teaspoon of cayenne pepper

  • 1/4  teaspoon of salt

  • 1/2  teaspoon of fresh cracked pepper

  • 1/2  teaspoon Paprika

  • 2 tablespoons of grape seed oil

  • 4 slices of American cheese

  • 4 rolls, toast or hamburger buns

Mix together the dry ingredients and coat both sides of the fish. Heat the grape seed oil over medium heat and cook the fish on first side for 2 to 3 minutes, flip the fish, top with the cheese and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until fish is flaky.  Serve on rolls with Tartar Sauce.
