Use this crust for everything from your apple pie to meat pies, so easy and delicious!


Hot Water Crust Pastry

  • 150 grams of lard

  • 75 grams of butter

  • 200 ml of water

  • 450 grams of bread flour

  • 100 grams of all purpose flour

  • 1 egg an egg wash

 

Heat the lard, butter and water over low heat until lard and butter are melted. Sift flour into a stand mixture bowl then as the mixer is going on low slowly pour the heated mixture into the flour. increase mixer speed to medium until combine. Turn out onto a floured surface and roll into desired shape. This makes enough for a top and bottom for a large pie. Hot water crust is easy to work with and cut into shapes but work quickly while it is still warm. Fill with your favorite pie fillings and then brush the exposed crust with the egg wash.
