These are easy to make and the onion jam can be made in a larger batch and used for so many other things. A fun compliment to a meal or served as an appetizer.

Onion Jam and Goat Cheese Canapes

Onion Jam

  • 2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil

  • 1 yellow onion, slice and diced thin

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 teaspoon of sumac

  • 1 teaspoon of coriander seed

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/16 cup of brown sugar

  • 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar

To make the jam heat the oil in a pan over medium high heat.  Add the onions, salt, sumac, coriander and pepper.  Stir and cook until onions begin to soften and turn brown.  Now add the brown sugar and stir in and then deglaze the pan with the vinegar.  Bring to a boil and then turn down to low and cover for 30 minutes until a soft thick consistency.  Let cool.

Assembling the Canapes

  • 4oz package of goat cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Place a baking mat or parchment paper on a baking sheet.  Mix together the goat cheese and onion jam.  Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread the cheese jam mixture evenly over the dough.  Cut into triangles and roll up like a crescent roll.  Place on baking sheet.  Brush all with the egg wash and then bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
